This alarm really works well. Too well, actually. I wish there was some way to adjust the sensitivity. Maybe I have a lot of squirrels who like to run up and down the tree to which it is attached. It really goes off much more frequently when the wind is high. I had an Annunciator 1000 for nearly 10 years that worked great and finally died. That's why I bought this one. The signal has to get through a small shed (same location as 1000, no line of sight to the receiver, and about 100 feet) and it certainly does!

I have tried three other driveway alarms. The Dakota alert was not reliable, too many cars drive by within 5 feet and it did not pick them up. Tried calling the help line, wasn't much help. The Chamberlain worked well but I could not hear the tone of the reciever. It was not adjustable for volume or tone. Can't remember the other. The Optex has worked well so far, it has an adjustable volume so I can hear it while in other parts of the house. Simple to install.

The range of the product is fantastic...we have a very large building that is half warehouse and half office and the transmitter works from one end to the other. There are four different volume settings; the quietest one is pretty quiet but I could understand someone thinking it could be a little quieter and the loudest one is about as loud anyone could want. I also love the fact that it has either a "fan" setting to catch movement over a larger area or a direct setting to have a single line with a smaller diameter that will work for longer distances. It is possible to mount it on the wall pointing out or on the ceiling pointing down. It's really very convenient and will fit with any space.
I do have one complaint though, and unfortunately it's kind of a big one. Occasionally when someone walks through the doorway that the alarm is covering it will fail to make any noise at all until about 2-3 minutes later when it makes the standard ding. I'm not sure what is causing this delay but it has definitely caused some confusion.
I'd still say this is a good product and 95% of the time it works just like it should.
